HEALIX

Bridgerland Technical College, Health-Sciences Building, Logan, UT

The helix in biology is related to genomics, or the physical structure of DNA. It also serves as a thematic anchor for the healing culture of the Health Sciences Building, Healix connects the history of the land to its modern day use through the lens of healing practices. The origin of the sculptural spiral form is derived from the Anasazi symbol for healing, the ‘Spiral Sun.’ These ancient Pueblo people carved this symbol in stone; the sun is seen as the ‘First Healer,’ while the spiral represents eternity. Extending the spiral into a dimensional helictical path reveals its infinte spiral, depicting an enduring gesture of healing, and wholeness.
